History

ShinChiao Elementary School, which was established in 1920 during the Japanese colonial period, is situated in Xinying District of Tainan City. The place for the school is in the heart of Tiexian Community and set on the bank of Jishui River.

Tiexian Community, also known as Thih-suànn-kiô-pó, was coined by the locals who constructed the bridge and tied the chips of bamboo with iron string. Furthermore, the small village turned into a prosperous town because the harbor of Tiexian Bridge was in front of the Tong-Ji temple, thus earning it the name “ the First Street of Xinying ” during the reign of Qing Dynasty. For the residents in the nearby Tiexian community, the Tong-Ji temple and deities are part of their lives.

“ Knowledge gained through study paves the way for people to be successful ”. The words depict the Tiexian locals conducting education in the first place. However, it wasn’t easy for pupils to go to school on foot when flash floods were coming. In cope with these difficulties, Mr. Yang, Yun-jhong stepped in to help and worked hard to raise enough funds. Therefore, the branch campus of Tiexian Bridge, which belonged to Cha-bó͘-iâⁿ public school, was established and became the ShinChiao primary school independently later. The name of the student activity center, Yun-Jhong Memorial, was marked as his devotion.

In view of its beautiful natural setting, a collection of camphor trees is filled with the school. The campus, in particular, is so lush that it feels worlds away from the terrain. The aim of rich and a variety of curricula, such as mixed-age after school learning, remedial instructional course, ukulele, martial arts, sports club, recorder orchestra, board-game club, art and craft club, and courses with bilingual education, are to inherit the spirit of local culture and provide children with diverse learning opportunities.
